2. Learn the history of the island at Marco Island Island Historical Museum
Featuring the best regional artists and the storied past of Marco Island, the historical museum offers an impressive breadth of Marco’s history.
Marco Island was once home to the mighty Calusa Indians, but don’t take our word for it, head over to the Marco Island to walk through a re-creation of a Calusa village. Complete with artifacts and historical documents, the museum provides a real-life glimpse into this powerful, and highly organized people group.
The newest exhibit follows the development of Modern Marco Island. Superbly designed with retro colors and typography, this exhibit highlights the imagination of the original Marco visionaries, engineers, and the team that marketed the project to investors. The presentation rivals many of the nicest “era” rooms of any major museums.

Founded in 1969, the Marco Island Center of the Arts is perfect place to shelter from the storm. Featuring local, national, and international artists from a variety of disciplines, you may even b inspired to take one of their educational classes. With courses in a variety mediums such as clay, acrylic, watercolor, and even photography, the Center can satisfy any curious mind… and don’t forget to stop by the gift shop!
